The Greatest Showman is a 2017 Musical that is starring Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams, Zendaya, Zac Efron and Rebecca Ferguson. It is directed by Michael Gracey (most known for Naruto and Ned Kelly).

A synopsis for this film reads: “Orphaned, penniless but ambitious and with a mind crammed with imagination and fresh ideas, the American Phineas Taylor Barnum will always be remembered as the man with the gift to effortlessly blur the line between reality and fiction. Thirsty for innovation and hungry for success, the son of a tailor will manage to open a wax museum but will soon shift focus to the unique and peculiar, introducing extraordinary, never-seen-before live acts on the circus stage. Some will call Barnum’s wide collection of oddities, a freak show; however, when the obsessed for cheers and respectability showman gambles everything on the opera singer Jenny Lind to appeal to a high-brow audience, he will somehow lose sight of the most important aspect of his life: his family. Will Barnum risk it all to be accepted?”

I would like to start of by saying that this film had a bit of everything and it was moving, upbeat, and romantic. I really can’t say enough good things about it. Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, and Zendaya are all so talented. The acting, the original music, the singing, and the imagination are all fantastic. Well done to the cast, crew and Michael Gracey for putting together a phenomenally entertaining and captivating film. Don’t listen to the critics, go and see this movie. The soundtrack is so brilliant and original: my personal favourite songs are This Is Me, A Million Dreams, Never Enough, Rewrite The Stars, Greatest Show and From Now On. I couldn’t believe how well Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron and Zendaya sounded on their tracks. By the way, all the songs from the motion picture are now available to stream on Spotify.

The Greatest Showman is an uplifting, joyous experience that we all need, nowadays more than ever. The musical numbers are really impressive and the plot, while not historically accurate is heartfelt and engrossing. It is a film that can be enjoyed by anyone and a perfect watch for the whole family. And the greatest satisfaction is that you feel wonderful at the end! Within the film, an entertainment critic who describes Mr. Barnum’s offerings as “a circus of humbug” asks whether it bothers him that all he offers is fake. Barnum, referring to his customers, replies, “Do their smiles look fake?” No, they don’t – nor do the ones in the theater. And those smiles are reaffirmed through the round of applause that many audiences bestow upon the film at its conclusion.

This film deserves a rating of 10 out of 10 ! It is simply amazing !

Movie Review: Eddie The Eagle

Eddie The Eagle is a 2016 comedy inspired from the life story of British Olympic skier Michael “Eddie” Edwards. The film is directed by Dexter Fletcher, mostly known for Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) and Kick Ass (2010),and it is starring Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman. A synopsis of Eddie The Eagle reads: “Inspired by true events, Eddie the Eagle is a feel-good story about Michael “Eddie” Edwards (Taron Egerton), an unlikely but courageous British ski-jumper who never stopped believing in himself – even as an entire nation was counting him out. With the help of a rebellious and charismatic coach, Eddie takes on the establishment and wins the hearts of sports fans around the world by making an improbable and historic showing at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics“.

What I loved the most about this comedy was how easy it made me laugh, and the storyline was linear, developing from one point to another. In other words it made sense and it was easy to follow. Not a lot of people know this, but I am a fan of ski jumping, having followed this sport for quite some time so for me to see a movie about this sport was pleasant. Another thing that impressed me in Eddie The Eagle was the soundtracks, which were jolly and appropriate for this kind of movie and atmosphere. It is fair to say that this movie represents the story of every underdog that has been told he can’t accomplish what he set his mind to, but in the end the determination strives. A personal rating for this film would be 8 out of 10. I highly recommend this film for a good laughter.
