My Cousin Rachel is a 2017 romantic drama starring Sam Claflin, Rachel Weisz, Holliday Grainger and Iain Glen. It is directed by Roger Michell, who is known for Nothing Hill (1999) and Morning Glory (2010). This film is made after a book with the same title as the film and the writer is Daphne du Maurier. A synopsis for My Cousin Rachel reads: “A young Englishman plots revenge against his mysterious, beautiful cousin, believing that she murdered his guardian. But his feelings become complicated as he finds himself falling under the beguiling spell of her charms.”
I want to start off by saying that this movie is a masterpiece, from the beginning till the end. The story is captivating, the acting of Sam Claflin and Rachel Weisz is top class and the way the story develops keeps its viewers wanting more. Another plus is the way this cinema piece was filmed and the sights it presented. The setting could hardly be more beautiful, with the farmland, woods, and dangerously lovely coast. Care has been taken to recreate the time period and Gothic story, aided by deft direction.
Throughout the narrative, we are presented with information which forces us as viewers to revise constantly one’s view as to whether the eponymous relative is a callous and scheming malevolent or totally misjudged and misunderstood. In a wonderful performance, Weisz enables us to be equally convinced by both interpretations. The film may seem a bit slow to some viewers not patient enough for a sophisticated period drama, but it’s actually well-paced and rich in mystery as well as colorful and charming local details. This lovely, terrific adaptation of Du Maurier’s classic work deserves high praise indeed.
I would highly recommend this film and if I were to rate it I would give it a mark of 8 out 10. My Cousin Rachel is out in cinemas everywhere! If you need more reasons to go and see this film watch below an official trailer:
King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword is a 2017 action film starring Charlie Hunnam, Jude Law, Eric Bana and Astrid Bergès-Frisbey. It is directed by Guy Ritchie (known for RocknRolla and The Man From U.N.C.L.E.). A synopsis for the film reads: “Robbed of his birthright, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy – whether he likes it or not”.
When I first watched the trailer some months ago and considering the fact that Guy Ritchie is directing this I thought one thing to be sure – this movie will NOT BE a classical King Arthur story. What happens here instead is that Ritchie took the concept of the King Arthur and Excalibur’s myths and made an original film in a way only he can. Some points I would like to raise are: Charlie Hunnam is an excellent actor with huge potential, Jude Law is at his best, this movie won’t be the same without him. Hunnam and Law were one of the reasons I wanted to watch this movie and they have a good chemistry on screen.
The soundtrack is well chosen, the overall atmosphere is excellent and the effects are spot on. A Guy Ritchie move I noticed in his films and is used in this one as well is the filming in slow motion which adds value to a brilliant story. What you should NOT expect from this movie is a regular King Arthur story. In this film is the witty dialogue and creative editing we’ve (at least some of us) have come to love from Guy Ritchie. There was never a boring scene throughout and I felt that this movie had all the elements to keep its viewers entertained. The action is good and the manner of delivery of it all brings this to greatness. The acting is solid, some characters are less developed than others, but I didn’t feel that this hurt the movie at all.

Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is a 2017 Fantasy film starring Johnny Depp, Javier Bardem, Geoffrey Rush, Brenton Thwaites and Kaya Scodelario. A synopsis for the film reads: “Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar, escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas”.
The first thing I would like to say about this film is the fact that I absolutely loved it! It is clear to see it is made for the family audiences, but nonetheless it kept me entertained for two hours! It is an action filled adventure on the high seas from when Britannia ruled the waves. It has it all: action, pirates, sailors and ghosts. If you want to take your kids to this one, you will not be sorry. I really enjoyed Mr. Bardem as Captain Salazar and I believe his acting is a little bit better than the rest, but every actor gave a hundred percent for this movie and it shows!
I can guarantee you that you will be laughing of many funny actions or the language used by the character. Johnny Depp is still the soul of the movie. He is leading all characters and is the one who is controlling the action. Besides of its perfection, this movie has some illogical scenes and some missing plot elements. Those who are not really fans of Pirates of the Caribbean movies, will have a difficulty to understand who is the real enemy and what pirates’ life is all about and what they must do to protect Jack Sparrow.
The film is brilliantly filmed and I think is perfect for IMAX. I watched it in D-Box which basically means that the chairs were moving while the action of the film was depicted on the screen. It was worth it to watch it like this and I would highly recommend this experience. I really enjoyed seeing Kaya Scodelario, whom I have been a fan of since her Skins days. Brenton Thwaites, who you may know from The Giver, also delivers a good acting. If I were to give a mark for this film I would give it a 7 out of 10.

Table 19 is a 87 minute Comedy/Drama that is starring Anna Kendrick, Lisa Kudrow, Craig Robinson, Tony Revolori, Stephen Merchant and June Squibb. It is directed by Jeffrey Blitz, mostly known for the TV show The Office (2006-2013). A synopsis reads: “Eloise, having been relieved of maid of honor duties after being unceremoniously dumped by the best man via text, decides to attend the wedding anyway, only to find herself seated with five fellow unwanted guests at the dreaded Table 19″.
What I like about this film is the fact that the story is simple, charming and it presents the raw reality and sometimes awkwardness of relationships. There are two main relationships that are depicted, and both of them have its complications: the relationship between Eloise and Teddy and the one between Bina and Jerry Kepp. Besides this, we have a young man, Rezno, who is struggling with his confidence in asking someone to dance with him.
Nobody beautiful, rich or influential is at table 19. It turns out they are all at a turning point in their lives and the story evolves about their various crisis. These people are all amazing and their stories are interesting. I believe the soundtrack is well chosen and the spark of sensuality provided when Huck and Eloise dance is well done. I discovered a new song in this film that I now love- Roses by The Chainsmokers and ROZES
Stepehen Merchant’s character, Walter, will definitely make you laugh with his funny and awkward way of being and the way he talks. Nanny Jo is also an interesting character that gives the story a plus. This film is a combination of funny and sad moments, but I feel that it works well for its viewers. On the whole, Table 19 is a feel-good film that is definitely worth watching. If I were to rate this film I would give it a 7 out of 10.

The Boss Baby is a 2017 animation starring Alec Baldwin, Steve Buscemi, Jimmy Kimmel and Lisa Kudrow. It is directed by Tom McGrath, mostly known for Madagascar (2005). A synopsis reads: “A suit-wearing briefcase-carrying baby pairs up with his seven year-old brother to stop the dastardly plot of the CEO of Puppy Co.
The Boss Baby is funny and heartwarming. It has plenty of quality laugh-out-loud moments, and has humor that will appeal to everyone, not just kids. There were also some very touching moments.. especially the boy’s bedtime routine and the relationship he develops with the boss baby. The intro scene with the baby deliveries is very cute and funny. I must say that in this film the babies seem much cuter than in real life.
Besides the conflict of the two brothers fighting for the attention of their parents, there is a separate plot line about Francis Francis trying to get people to love more puppies instead of babies-it involves creating a new breed of puppy that never grows up. The Boss baby character is hilarious. I loved the reflections on parenthood, feeding the baby, dummy sucking, milk bottles, diapers (nappies), vomit, lack of sleep, etc
The Boss Baby is an entertaining spectacle that is fun, funny, and clever at many points. This movie is certainly adorable and is the perfect family film (for all ages) . The story is simplistic and silly, and doesn’t have as much magic as a Disney film, but it’s nice to have a unique, original story that doesn’t involve making a political ordeal out of it. My personal rating for this film is 7.5 out of 10.

Why Him? is a 111 minutes comedy directed by John Hamburg, mostly known for I Love You, Man (2009). It is starring Zoey Deutch, James Franco, Cedric the Entertainer, Kegan-Michael Key, Bryan Cranston and Megan Mullally. A synopsis reads: “A holiday gathering threatens to go off the rails when Ned Fleming realizes that his daughter’s Silicon Valley billionaire boyfriend is about to pop the question”.
Watching Why Him? I was pleasantly surprised. When entering the cinema screen I din’t think I will laugh a lot, but it happened. I must say this is a goofy movie and I would advise you not to put too much thought going in. What I would say to you is to just enjoy the show. James Franco is brilliant, he brings his A-game here, and is once again totally hysterical. Bryan Cranston has a surprising comedic timing. Megan Mullally is a scene stealer. Kegan-Michael Key is bonkers. They all contribute to making this film enjoyable for us as spectators.
What I liked about this film is also the fact that it’s got Kaley Cuoco (one of my favourite actresses) as an awesome version of Siri, apparently the best of Silicon Valley. Oh, and a half of the band KISS in full costume and makeup. Without saying too much I think the end of this film will warm your heart. Another thing that is worth mentioning is that the movie contains a lot of swearing and adult scenes, so I don’t recommend it to the kids.
If I were to give a rating to this film it would be a 6.5 out of 10. It’s not extraordinary, but definitely worth a watch, especially if you are a James Franco fan. Why Him? is in cinemas everywhere !
La La Land is a 128 minutes musical that I had the pleasure to watch a few days ago. It is directed by Damien Chazelle, mostly known for Whiplash (2014). La La Land is starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. A synopsis reads: “Mia, an aspiring actress, serves lattes to movie stars in between auditions and Sebastian, a jazz musician, scrapes by playing cocktail party gigs in dingy bars, but as success mounts they are faced with decisions that begin to fray the fragile fabric of their love affair, and the dreams they worked so hard to maintain in each other threaten to rip them apart“.
It is worth mentioning that this film is nominated for 7 Golden Globes. Watching it, I had the feeling of being transported to another world, where everyone is happy and sings catchy songs. The opening sequence took my breath away and the rest of the film didn’t disappoint either. The end of the film is built beautifully and it makes you wishing for the story not to end. I must say La La Land is a beautiful cinematic piece with soul, wit, charm, style and love.By watching it, you get a good feeling from the beginning till the end!
The chemistry between Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling is undeniable and their acting is top class. I can’t think of any other actors that could have played their roles. This is to show how much they were suitable for their parts. I can’t remember the last time I saw a musical, but I felt La La Land could define this genre. The soundtrack is brilliant in my opinion, especially the tracks Mia & Sebastian’s Theme and City Of Stars. If you want to listen to the soundtrack of this film you can do so on Spotify. I highly recommend this film and I’ll give it a 8.5 rating out of 10.
Doctor Strange is a 2016 Marvel Studios Fantasy film, which basically means it is a superhero film. It is starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, Mads Mikkelsen and Tilda Swinton as the main characters. A synopsis for Doctor Strange reads: “A former neurosurgeon embarks on a journey of healing only to be drawn into the world of the mystic arts“.
Without giving away too much, Benedict Cumberbatch is phenomenal. Although I don’t personally like him, I must say that after the performance in this film he won me over; he is one class actor. He seems he was born to play the role of the ex-neurosurgeon turned Sorcerer Supreme. Every cinema goer will love the action, humor, adventure and fantasy throughout the film.
I am always prudent when it comes to action/fantasy movies with big budgets. They generally seem to follow a certain pattern where the scenarios and scripts are so “déjà-vu” that I feel disgusted. Here, the story line is somewhat classic, but the humor and delivery style reminds me a bit of Ant-Man which I personally enjoyed.
I must say that the best point of this movie is the fact that the graphics are astonishing! Great CGI and on point artwork… you have to watch this in 3D to reach its maximum potential! I wouldn’t have it any other way that’s for sure. Visual entertainment at its finest, enjoy.
I highly recommend this film and I will give it a ranking of 8 out of 10. Go and watch it while it is still in the cinemas!
The Girl On The Train is a 112 minutes Thriller that was released on 5 October 2016. It is directed by Tate Taylor, mostly known for The Help (2011) and Get on Up (2014). The Girl On The Train is starring Emily Blunt, Haley Bennett, Rebecca Ferguson, Justin Theroux and Luke Evans. A synopsis reads: “A divorcee becomes entangled in a missing persons investigation that promises to send shockwaves throughout her life“.
Going to watch this film I had high hopes, especially after reading the book by Paula Hawkins and I must say that it turned out to be a great film. From the first second, with the first word spoken , you are completely drawn by this movie. I felt that by watching this I was using my brain almost like it was me inside the movie and I was attempting to solve the mystery that appeared right before my eyes.
This film has a lot of drama and suspense moments and the acting of Emily Blunt is high class. I feel that it’s going to be a shame if you miss this film..I genuinely felt sorry for the main character, Rachel, almost as for a friend of mine who is telling me a sad story.I believe that someone who hadn’t read the book will feel like they just dont’t want to blink before they got all the facts straight.
I highly recommend this film and I believe it’s best to watch it at night as it will make your time more interesting and it will give you a lot to talk over with your friends. Some parts of the movie could have been made better comparing to how the book is written. The Girl On The Train is not as good as Gone Girl, but still I feel this is worthy of your time.

Suicide Squad is a 2016 action movie directed by David Ayer, mostly known for Training Day (2001) and Fury (2014). It is starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Jay Hernandez, Jai Courtney, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Cara Delevingne,Joel Kinnaman and Viola Davis. A synopsis reads : “It feels good to be bad…Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?”
First thing I want to talk about is Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. She is amazing, she is exactly what I expected Harley Queen to be. She is also my favourite character from the squad. Jared Leto is great, he is a very controversial pick as the Joker and I think reactions will be mixed. My opinion is that he was fantastic, but he did not get enough screen time. Then there was Will Smith as Deadshot, he was the main leader of the suicide squad.Viola Davis as Amanda Waller was probably the best casting. She was just so menacing and is such an amazing and talented actress. Ben Affleck as Batman appears in a small cameo. I wanted Batman to be more involved in the story though. Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje plays Killer Croc and his performance was good, but wasn’t a stand-out like I was hoping. They didn’t really put him in it too much, but he was still good. I must say I was impressed with Diablo, who has in my opinion, the most badass powers in the squad . All in all, this movie had enough comedy and action to blend in to an amazing summer movie. I won’t compare it to Batman vs Superman or Captain America because it isn’t fair, they are all good in there own way. I highly recommend it. Go see this movie in theaters. It’s highly worth your time.
